Motorola Droid 2.1 Root help

I am running factory android os with the legit 2.1 update and im a noob at rooting but I want to root my phone. I've found many links on rooting and I think I understand it all but my questions are:

Can you use a root file for 2.0.1 on 2.1?

And if not where can I find a link to root a LEGIT 2.1?

All I can find on rooting a 2.1 is like from dec. Or jan. And it says stuff like 2.1 replicating (i assume to simulate the sense ui) and about helix launcher and launcher 2.1. I cant find anything recent.

As of now theres no way to root once you have 2.1 update, someone(pete) was able to make an update.zip for 2.0.1 that would make the phone 2.1 with root

You will first need to go back to 2.0.1 and then from there you can root. I suggest doing a lot of reading in the Hacks forum before attempting any of it.
