moving apps

Can anyone explain to me how to move apps from one home screen to another I would like to condense my home screens down and can't figure this out

I simply hold the icon and go to the screen I want to put it in. when the light turns green pull it a little farther over and it will be on the on the correct home screen.

You can also long press and hold the icons with one finger, and swipe the screens across using another finger; works somewhat easier to move icons across multiple screens for me as they sometimes don't want to move to the next screen even when held at the very corner of the current screen.
