Is anyone else's phone completely locking up when playing music? It has happened to me while playing through the phone speaker as well as a bluetooth speaker in my car. It will play normally for a bit, then the music will stop. I am able to wake the phone, but it still shows that it is unpaused but no sound is playing, then if I put the phone back to sleep by pushing the power button, I am not able to wake it back up and need to do a battery pull. Its happened quite a few times in the last month.

I am rooted, but stock with the exception of a handful of blur Apps frozen in Titanium. Nothing else is modified.

I don't like the sound of any of this. First, a Droid shouldn't require a battery pull. I was thinking perhaps get something other then a stock music player but this locking up stuff, something else is causing this

If you're rooted you probably aren't using them but just to be sure if you do have a task killer or antivirus, remove them. You didn't mention if you're running a custom ROM but if you are that might be an issue.

Have you done a wipe on the phone at all?

U kno wat I have a rooted ally running velocity.

I have had this problem a few times too. I installed poweramp (I bought it for 4.99). I haven had any probs with it. There are others free but I haven't tried them to see if they help. Id say get off the stock music player

Well part of this sounds like the built in task manager killing the music app when the screen goes off. Check that and see that the music app nor the Gallery app is checked to be shutdown when the screen locks. I don't know why the Gallery app being killed affects the music app, but it does.

Perhaps the freezing is related to this too, but I agree with Hook, it's of concern. I would, if I knew more about a rooted D2G, recommend a Factory Hard Reset. Perhaps someone with D2G experience/knowledge can offer advice on a Reset if the D2G is rooted.

Yes, I am running the stock ROM. I know that a hard factory reset has been known to cure a variety of ills, but I was hoping to avoid it. I like the stock music app, because it offers the lockscreen music controls. I have tried using widget locker with the phantom music controls app, but I always believed that the stock stuff was just fine.

If it's not a widespread issue, then it's probably something f'ed up in my software. I have restored a nandroid backup once about a month ago, maybe something didn't restore properly.

If I do a factory reset through the privacy menu, will I lose root? Is it better to do it through recovery?

U won't lose root...

Poweramp has a good lock screen player as well. I kno I keep kinda promoting the app, but I've tried a lot its by far the best to me

Sent from my Ally using DroidForums App

Agree on PowerAmp. Its a great music player. Another one to consider is MixZing. Both of these apps are head-and-shoulders above the native music app.

Good luck.

I tried mixzing...

I think poweramp is more customizable still... I like the folder features and stuff

I have tried all of the music apps you all are suggesting (and I do appreciate the suggestions and ideas). I am someone who likes the straighforward-ness and simplicity of the stock app. I don't want to band-aid my problem, though, so I did a factory reset to see if it clears up. If not, I will probably exchange it under warranty.

Sounds good... I never wanted to do that so I'm lazy lol...

N rooting and reformatting from flashin roms as many times as I have has never cleared it up with the stock music app. I've prob totally wiped everything from my phone 3 or 4 times now

Same problem

My new DROID 2 Global keeps locking up while playing music too. I don't see any pattern when it happens (screen goes off, etc) it seems to be pretty random when it happens, but powering the unit on and off "fixes" the problem.

I used to have a Blackberry Storm (ugh) that locked up all the time, and I switched to an Android 2.2 phone thinking I would stop having these issues. grrrrrrrr.

It appears that there are some MicroSD issues plaguing the kernel in the Droid 2 Global phones. Mine doesn't lock up this way, but any time I move music over through Airsync to my phone, it will not come back from sleep until the SD card is wiped or removed.

Maybe an update soon will fix this...

Does this occur when you manually load music on the sdcard? Or is only when you put music on the card with Airsync?
