I'm amazed to read this. The only louder phones I've ever heard are the OG Droid and the EVO. Mine is a BEAST! I can hear my text alert from downstairs.
Not to imply that you haven't, but double check your settings, maybe do a reboot with battery pull. I can't imagine that there is THAT much difference between devices. Perhaps you just got bum units?

Just curious, how loud is your music player. My ringer is loud yet my speakerphone is low.

OK I just put my OG Droid and my HTC Thunderbolt side by side playing the same song on speakerphone. The OG Droid can drown out the Thunderbolt but just barely, but the Thunderbolt's quality is quite a bit more.
Then again, when I got mad at my OG Droid for locking up and threw it on the ground (carpet) one time, I noticed the speakerphone was really loud after that. So could just be my Droid.... <cough>
Well, this is no joke to me. I paid good money for this phone and it's back to verizon tomorrow to find out what is wrong. This sux
