My wish list...

Hi! After playing with m Droid for a few days now I have a few things I would love to see...maybe they are available and I just don't know...since I'm less than a week old with the Droid!

1) FaceBook: A good app for FB that has some customization options. I was looking at "Pure Messenger" but my credit card won't work for foriegn currencies. As a side not, when I look in my contacts, I see my contacts how they should be...however, when I am in a text message and I look at the contacts via the SMS screen it shows ALL of my FB friends who have phone numbers on their profiles...problem with this is, I have an app on FB that I have about 400+ friends on...friends that I don't know personally and would never call. Is there a way to choose what friends go through...I have them all seperated on FB groups, but I haven't seen any way to only include x groups in syncing.

2) Messaging App: On my Storm I was able to click the Messages icon and I could see, read, reply to ALL messages...E-mail, SMS, MMS etc. I really liked having everything in one place like that...anything for the Droid that is similar? I currently am using Executive Assistant, I like it, but it isn't the same as having one button that shows ALL messages and allows you to simply read, reply and delete what you want.

3) E-mail Deleting: Is there a way to choose to delete from the Droid only. I don't like all the clutter of having a lot of e-mails on my phone. I have some e-mails that I keep in my inbox on my laptop because I have either yet to respond, or because it is an open communication etc., but I don't NEED these all on my phone. I want to be able to get the e-mails on my phone, read, reply or delete them without affecting them on my Yahoo page on my laptop. Any way of doing that?

4) Calendar: I'm looking for a good ap that lets me sync with my Yahoo Calendar. The default only lets you sync with g-mail I think right?

5) Lock: A decent Lock app. It seems like it takes too much to unlock the phone. I'd like an app that just shuts the screen off when the phone is idle...instead of locking it when the screen shuts off. If I need to lock the phone for whatever reason, I want to be able to manually lock it when I want to instead of it just being locked ALL the time like the default app does.

The last thing is really more of a question...currently I'm using Weather and Toggle Widget - Donate. What other options are there that will give me more than 3 screens?

Thanks for reading my ramblings!

Glenn

1. We're kind of stuck with what we have for facebook. For me that's not a big deal since I don't even use Facebook.

2. I don't know.

3. What you would do is move your messages to archive. You have to remember this is a Google phone and you can't separate gmail from the phone. You could archive the gmail and go back into all mail and delete it after you finish reading it later.

4. Yahoo says you can: Can I sync with Live or Google Calendar? | Yahoo! Calendar Help

5. The lock is what it is. I don't use it myself for that very reason.

3) E-mail Deleting: Is there a way to choose to delete from the Droid only. I don't like all the clutter of having a lot of e-mails on my phone. Try using the K-9 email client in place of "gmail" or "email." It provides options for what to do with mail on the server when you delete it on the Droid. Among the options is to do nothing. That appears to be the option you're looking for. The email will stay on the server for you to access from your laptop but will disappear from your Droid.

P.S. Can't vouch for how well this performs with Yahoo!Mail if that's what you're using. That email system is (ahem) unique enough that it might not work correctly and you might have the email show up again if you leave it on the Yahoo server. But this approach works fine with the Google mail server. I clear my K-9 inbox regularly and can still access the deleted emails on my laptop and desktop system via gmail.

1) Bloo is what everyone says is the best Facebook app right now. I would agree w/ the majority. I say "everyone" but you get the idea.

2) I don't know either.

3) I know you can do this w/ the Email app but that's for pop/imap accounts. You can set it to delete from your phone, but not the e-mail server. But I think you'd have to have the pro account or the upgraded account w/ yahoo to be able to check it via pop, not 100% sure on that one. But I do know that the Email app will let you check / delete email without it deleting it from the server, and you can still get them on your laptop etc.4

4) I don't see google wanting to support / help their competition but, here's a couple links to try different things to get your calendar on the droid.

5) myLock app may or may not do what you are after. Read up on it and give it a try.

You will get several different opinions on which home replacement to use to get more screens. The majority around here I would say uses HelixLauncher. I used it and had no problems w/ it. Right now I am using Home++, it does a little more for me than Helix, but again... that's my .02 There are several home replacement apps out there, and what I did was give them all a decent fair shake to see what they had. Some are better than others, just download them, try em out and see what fits you the best.

Some to try are:
HelixLauncher - Free
Home++ - Free
Open Home - $3.99
PandaHome2 - Free (think u can have 11 screens w/ this one)

Again, just look around there are several out there.

FWIW, I never got Yahoo Calendar to work with Droid, despite working for a week on different solutions. That was before 2.1, though. I'd really like to hear if anyone finds a solution. I already tried the things that have been linked here. I don't think it will ever work very well, though. It seems that Yahoo has something set on their end to prevent Google Calendar from accessing the data (despite saying in their documentation that you can sync them). I even tried routing the calendar data through Pipes, but that didn't work either.

Thanks for all of the input! im trying a few of these out now...i'll let you know how it works out.

Thanks,
Glenn
