Need help getting Gingerbread on my Droid X

Hi, I am a rookie to all of this android tech stuff. I have a Droid X and I want to download/install Gingerbread. My phone is not rooted yet, but my friend told me i can download z4root and easily root my phone. Can someone please tell me how to get Gingerbread.
