Need help!!!

sorry if this has been already asked, and i have tried to search it but i have failed so far.
I did not know what dismounting the SD card meant and i was wondering if i reformatted it would i lose all my contacts?
sorry for the noob question,

I believe your contacts r stored thru your google account coz I've did a factory data reset twice and they're always still there...they're not saved to the sd card...just music and any file u put there is on the sd card...and dismounting...if we're on the same page...just means turning off USB storage when your done copying files..just pulling down the notification bar down and turning it off before u unplug it
