New Day, Same Problem (can't answer calls)

I posted yesterday for help answering calls. Updated (if one can call it that) to Froyo last week. If a call comes in (phone rings) with just the 'time & date locked screen', I can swipe and answer the call. However, if I'm reading, writing a text, looking at contacts, etc. etc. etc. I cannot get that screen to come up.

Interestingly, the calls don't show up in the call log either and I don't know if callers can leave a voice mail (as archaic as that may be).

Received a couple of suggestions (thank you!) & followed all of them except wiping the ???--sounded like reformatting a computer drive and I was afraid to do it. I deleted many apps including the app killer, *228 to 'activate phone', Handcent (one of my favorites) and more.

No change in behavior of the phone but I'm getting angrier and angrier. After all, isn't this supposed to be a PHONE first? Apparently not and I love all the goodies but I REALLY need to answer the friggin' phone when someone calls so I can make enough money to pay for this half-useless piece of junk.

Sounds to me like a baseband problem. Yeah man I would either wipe the phone (which wont wipe the SD card and anything you saved like pics and such) or goto Verizon and let them do it. I can almost guarantee you that as soon as they get their hands on it, they will wipe the phone. If it doesn't work, tada! you get a new phone. Still a Droid 1 but.. new.
