New Droid owner in Peoria, IL

My wife had been wanting a smartphone to replace her 4-yr-old Nokia dumb (but faithful!) phone, so last Sunday, for her birthday, I picked her up a Droid Eris. Migrating to smartphone plans meant that I, of course, also needed one, so I snagged a Droid for myself. I have to say, we're both incredibly happy with them.

I had looked at the Droid the day it came out; took away a reasonably good first impression, but wasn't thrilled with the keyboard. After spending more time with the Droid, I find myself loving it more and more. I've gotten used to the keyboard, and I do appreciate being able to type without losing half the screen to a virtual keyboard. The screen is beautiful and responsive; I've never seen a sharper screen anywhere. Google Nav is amazing, voice search is wonderful for largely hands-free usage; Latitude helps my wife and I keep track of each other without even bothering with an SMS. Just today I discovered that there's some kind of compass in this thing, that knows my orientation on Google Maps! Definitely going to have to try that out in backcountry hiking.

Thanks to The Triumvirate for a great product on a great network; special kudos and thanks to Verizon for teaming up with such a capable device with free services/apps that patently supplant existing Verizon service revenue streams.

One thing that really made me smile is, Eris for the Girl, DROID for you! Gratz, thats what i do as well with my girl. I got my Milestone, and planning to get her a nokia music xpress ;)

Welcome andulinde,

I had to respond to you because a good Army buddy of mine just retired and moved home to Peoria. Small world I guess, but good to know that he is not all alone up there in IL. The DROID is awesome, as you will continue to discover, and so is this forum. Hope you have a great time with it!!
