New Droid Z Force downloading huge update

My Droid Z Force just started downloading a 436.8MB Update. Anyone know what it is for?
Did you get an update around the first of the month? I did, from Verizon & it was large. Not sure what it actually did. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Hmmmm, I have no idea (as she twirls her blonde hair). I'm curious, though. Hope someone chimes in.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago. As it is with others I have no idea what it was for.

The phone came with Marshmallow.

You likely got at least one, if not more security patches.

If you're only on the July patch, you'll be getting another one soon. I'm on the September patch on my regular Z. I just got it this past week or so.

I just got my second huge update this past weekend. More security patches, I think. I haven't noticed any changes...

Go to Settings>About Phone>and look at Security Patch Level. I'm willing to bet you're on September 1 now.

Next time you get an update and don't know what it's done, check the security patch level again. I'll bet it will have changed.

Usually, when they release software updates that change something noticeable, there's a link with info on the "Benefits of updating" from Verizon. Security patches generally change things under the hood that you'll likely never notice, so there's really no need to have such a page.

Mine was apparently a system update.

Yeah. Security patches ARE system updates. They're patching the Operating System itself and the underlying framework. If they weren't a system update, they'd likely just be an app update to fix a non-secure app.

Unfortunately for a lot of folks, it kind of messed up the notification volume. It's significantly quieter on my phone. Even with it turned all the way up, I can't hear it if it's in my pocket. Not a huge deal for me, but others are quite upset. There is a temporary work around through Device Help, but that makes other things kind of goofy too. They'll have to fix it with an update or just wait until N comes to the Z lineup.

Now that you mention that, I just realized that I haven't had my volume off of vibrate much lately, so I wasn't aware folks were having an issue.

If it was just a security patch, you'd think it wouldn't affect something like notification volume. Interesting...
