new ics ota global update coming

Seriously, 1.5 years later .... almost a full year after the global RUU leak..... really Verizon....???? Just ugh

Didn't a few get a soak test for this within days of ICS beginning to push? I remember a few got a secondary update that, if memory serves, had the global roaming.

So, I have been rooted for about 30 hours now, what's this mean for me?

Ppl on the leak probably won't get this OTA, however all you'll have to do is relock the bootloader and flash the ruu. I'm gonna wait for some devs to tinker with it and make sure there's no junk than breaks root access. Kinda curious to see if there are new radios too...

Rooting with a Mac sucks bad, I don't even know if I'll do it again. If vzw screws with my phone after I waited a frikin year to root I will sell it or smash it and be done with this smartphone and just use a dumbphone and carry a small tablet and leach wifi.

Lol, chill yo...rooting a second time around should be much easier now... But seriously I don't think there will be much to gain with this update....

My main issue is my device is much more than a phone, I have a Crestron smarthome app that I cannot reinstall by myself due to the nature of the required dealer only software from Crestron. Without it using my survailence cameras or lighting controls go away, not to mention the other few dozen things it does.

Every time my phone resets it wipes that, and then my device becomes more or less just a trivial toy.
If this causes me to lock/unlock and wipes it then I gotta say the practicality of owning it goes the way of the abacus.

Well now that your rooted you can go get that app reinstalled from Creston and then just back it up with titanium backup or some other backup app and not have this issue again

OTA updates generally do not require a wipe but do occasionally relock the device and cause other issues with rooted phones if they update goes through. If you are rooted I would do as Bpowder33 suggests and backup the app with TiBu or Ultimate Backup (I dislike TiBu), both are free in the Play Store, just to be safe. Once it has been backed up with one of those, you should be able to restore it without their intervention. That being said, I would reject any update until it is seen how it will effect a rooted phone, in some cases it can be bad, but many times the update will just fail.

I have titanium and am trying to understand it now, but the update has begun already and I dont have my crestron app repaired yet, my friend that does that for me will be here after 3:30 and now I may need to postpone that until I unlock or whatever needs to be done again since unlocking will wipe the phone.

It just installed on mine. I had both 4g and Wi-Fi radios off and it downloaded over 4g according to the icons showing data moving.
It was just over 207MB and took about 5 minutes to install after download.
I haven't looked around for any differences but it are the snot out of my battery while downloading.

It took forever to download, but when when I looked at my phone it was "Service Unavailable" and it mentioned something to the effect that I should check under software update for the file.

I did that and I get "Download failed", im ok with that unless it tries to download everyday.
