new S3 owner, decided that right now free was better

Hi all. Since I had decided to upgrade my phone I had started here by asking S4 questions. Mostly about apps to the removable card. That led me to looking at phones, both android and apple, with large amounts in internal memory. Well, the other day's dunking of my droid kind of forced my hand. And made me realize that I really shouldn't be spending $200 and up for a new phone when I also need a new laptop. The other thing I realized was that wanting more space dosen't mean I will use it. Until it's death by drowning my old Droid X2 easily ran bothe my birding data bases and it had only 8GB of space.

So, I am now a new S3 owner.

Congrats on picking up the s3, it's a great phone.

Congratulations on picking up the Galaxy S3. I upgraded from the Droid Bionic a couple of months ago and have not regretted it at all. I also went back and forth between the S3 and S4 and decided that the S3 would do everything that I wanted it to do. Plus the fact that the S3 was cheaper (not free) weighed in to my decision. I figure that with the money I'm saving by going with the S3, I can use that money to help spoil my niece and nephews rotten.:icon_ devil: From my experience with the phone, the S3 is a very solid phone and definitely the best one I've had in a long time on the battery life.

The battery life is my only concern at the moment. I had bought an extended battery when I bought the droid but not this time round. I did install the battery moniter which has been a big help. But I have yet to find a task manager equivalent to the one I had with the droid, which allowed me to set which apps to automatically close after being idle.

I used to have an extended battery for my Droid Bionic too. You know, I don't have an extended battery for the S3 nor do I feel the need to go out and get an extended battery for my phone. The battery life is that good for me.

Ditto.

Costco had the S4 for $129 and free activation, which saves another $30
Amazon had it for $119 but all fees applied.
No membership needed at Costco online for phones.

Raged Bionic

I upgraded from my Droid X to a S3 in December and paid $129.00. Just the other day I added a line to my account for my son and got a S3 for $.97 at Wal-Mart and then they gave me a $40 gift card on top of that. I love my S3 and could not justify spending the money to get the S4 because I could have kept the S4 and given my son the S3. I am not someone that needs to have the latest and greatest but just want a good solid phone that works. For now on I might just wait a while and save a few bucks and get phone when the price drops like the S3 at Wal-Mart.

I went from a GNex to the S3 in June (think). I kind of wanted to wait for the S4 but after using my wifes S3 and Costco having the phone for $67 (vs $200 for the S4 a few months later) I opted for the S3. It's been a great phone so far and both my wife and I are happy with ours. Battery life hasn't been an issue (it was on the GNex; I had 3 batteries). I haven't felt the need to go an get extra batteries and Costco will give me a new on next summer :)

Congrats on your S3, it should serve you well.

One of us! One of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble. One of us! One of us!

Welcome. Great, great phone. I used to have to constantly change smartphones cause I was just never completely happy and needed to switch it up. I've officially had this phone for over a year now (a record for me)!!

However if that Sony phone makes it to the US....

Give you a new what? Battery? This is my first phone from costco, so I don't know any of the perks...

I live in an area where the 4g signal fades in and out. Because of that, my battery life takes a good hit. I opted for an extended battery.

As far as a task manager, I had the same issue coming from the Bionic. I downloaded Tasker. Pretty powerful. Still getting used to it.

When I got my phone they said they would swap out your battery after a year. I think that was part of the insurance that Costco offers when you buy the phone. It was a one-time purchase but cheaper than the $7/mo that VZW charges.

I use my phone pretty regularly throughout the day. Lots of music. Battery isn't much of an issue. If I used it A LOT that day I'll usually charge it for a bit when I get home, but on a normal day, with normal usage (which is probably more than the average person's normal usage) I get through 1 day no problem. Unplug when I wake up, plug in when I go to sleep, usually at about 10%...
