Hello everyone,
Not sure exactly what's expected here so... first of all a little about myself; im 22 years old (23 in a couple of weeks) and live in north carolina. I just got out of the military in august where I served as a corpsman (essentially a medic) for a Marine Corps infantry battalion. I served one tour in iraq and am now just going to school and trying to get on with the rest of my life.
-sorry if that's too much info or irrelevant but like I said im really not sure what's expected here
Also, I just got my droidx in september and this is my first smart phone. I've done about all I can possibly do with it without rooting which I know isn't a whole lot; custom widgets, themes, etc thanks to 4shared :P and now im wanting to root my phone mainly for wireless hotspot and stuff like that but im really not sure where to start. Im "ok" with stuff like this(I know more tech stuff than the average idiot lol) but im looking for the safest, simplest way too root with the smallest margin for error and im not really concerned about custom ROMs or anything at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot

:welcome: to the Forum and thank you for your service.

The easiest way to root the X is z4Root. You download the app, you press the root permanently button, 30 seconds later it's done. If you need to remove the root the app has a button for that too.

You can get it here, but unfortunately they make you register to download anything.

Or you can google another way if you don't want to register.

Welcome and thanks for serving for our country. You might want to check out the DX hacks section in the DX subform. Also good luck in school and moving on with the rest of your life. The military background should help out with that tremendously

welcome to the forum!!! here is a link to the Forum Guidelines, to give you some basic rules of conduct: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ne...06774-guidelines-conduct-droidforums-net.html Other than that, just start browsing and posting around, and join in the fun! check out the Droid Discussions section (for all things Droid), and then head over to the DX section, and its subforums, for info devoted entirely to the DX. there is a separate subforum in there dealing with hacking your X, if you are so inclined. my only recommendation is to research thoroughly! but, if you have questions, don't hesitate to post around in the threads.

enjoy!! :)

Yea ill definatly check out the DX hacks forum... also that first response definatly sounds like what im looking for but I have 2 questions... first of all would it be necessary to create like backups or whatever? Not sure if that is the correct terminology but I just mean in case somehow something goes wrong in the one click process lol. Sorry but I've read all about bricked devices and everything and I really can't affort to pay retail for a replacement. Also, once rooted, is there something comparable to the iphone's Cydia app market available on the droid?
