new to rooting

I am new to rooting and i attempted to root my razr maxxo jelly bean. I have followed the intructions and seem to be doing everything. when i do Phase one it says link failed no such file or directory then everything at phase two says no such file or directory when i get to phase 3 it says permission denied mkdir failed for data/logger, file exists unable to chmod /data/logger, operation not permitted ... Please help

i get the same thing. Do I have to wipe my phone first?
