New to smartphone & some questions

Hi all. New here, but not new to (other) forums. Got my Droid X2 a week ago. Already rooted (gingerbreak) and ran the V6 script. I do have some questions though...

1) When I connect my phone via USB to my computer, I can no longer access the SD card via phone. Is that normal? Is there a way to access the card via the phone & PC when connected?
2) What's the benefit of connecting to Wifi? I understand you don't use data, but I've got unlimited data. Wouldn't leaving the WiFi radio on drain the battery quicker?

I'm sure I'll have more, but thanks in advance!

Welcome.

When you connect, do you have the options in the notification bar anymore?

Using wifi is good because it uses way less battery and the speeds are usually faster. The only way wifi drains your battery is when it is constantly searching for a network, or having to connect several times like on a weak network.
