New User and Issue already

HI my name is Heath and just got the droid yesterday! I am trying to message like text message and when I hit the "message" icon on the main screen a phone comes up like a phone screen? not a message screen to type a text message? ANY HELP PLEASE

Its the Motorola...thanks for your quick response I text about 10,000 texts a months to clients and am really getting freaked out that I cant fix this! YIKES

First of all I would suggest you download handcent from the market.. but when you click the green messaging icon, it should bring up a white screen with [New Message] at the top and any old messages listed under that.. are you completely stock?

I would prefer not to download anything right now I am just getting used to the phone...there has to be a reasonable way to get this to work?

It will bring up a screen that has add call end and dialpad on the bottom not a message screen....thoughts??

Like I said, I do not know why a telephone dialpad is opening when you click messaging, it shouldnt.

Try doing it this way. Go to a contact. Select SMS. Send your text.

I'm pretty sure you're just missing something to be honest with you. 99% of people who have problems right away are simply in the learning curve. Once you get past that curve you'll be fine.

HI if I go to "contacts" and click on the name it brings up the name and cell number and a smiley face next to the number if I click on that I can then text I have no SMS function...

Yes when I clikc on the messaging ICON on the main page it brings up that page of the phone but it has end call in red the other buttons do nothing if you touch them...

see why I am confused?
