New User and Need Assistance

I just switched from a regular cell phone to a Droid. The one drawback to the phone, which hopefully can be overcome, is that I cannot make and receive calls when I am in Europe (primarily France).

Are there any applications that I can download in order to make and receive phone calls while overseas? Otherwise, I am going to have to rent a GSM phone before my trip.

You'll be amazed how much you can learn by reading the threads here on the forum!
