New user, Places issue.

I've never owned a cellular phone before, let alone a Smartphone, mainly because I'm deaf, and it would take a smartphone to be of any real use to me, and the price was a bit out of my reach until recently.

So I'm playing around with my Droid 2 (The R2-D2 model. I could not resist, I have been a fangirl since it came out - the first time.) and lo, I discover "Places".

After geeking out over the shiny of it all and the impending usefulness for my upcoming trip out east, I played with a bit. And accidentally added something I changed my mind about, another places search, and I can find no way to remove the silly bugger. I did a forum search, but I couldn't find anything that seemed to address that specific issue. (The only one I found was about removing Places entirely, which I do not want to do.)

I would vastly appreciate any and all help and advise on the matter, and I have a sinking suspicion you'll see a bit of me over time flailing at you all going "GAHH! HOW DO I (insert question here)" because while I'm no 'net or computer n00b, the smartphone sure has me feeling like one. Bleh.

And while you're here, my starting screen when i first bring it out of sleep has the time, the date, and "Belongs to: .... " with nothing there. Where do I change that so it doesn't keep annoying me every time I see it? Because right now it taunts me with this elusive knowledge.

I'm not sure I understand... By another places search, do you mean you have a search bar on one of your homescreens? If so, just press on it and hold until the phone vibrates, then drag it to the trash can that appears at the bottom of the screen.

I don't have an R2D2, and my D2G has never showed a "Belongs to" prompt, so I can't help you there, sorry.

I'm confused about the Places Search too. Is that an app or a feature in Google Maps?

As the "Belongs To:" message, it seems that is often added by some of the antivirus apps that are out there. If you have on installed you can access that in the apps settings. Also the apps Contact Owner and ICE seem to put that message on the phone too.

Good luck.

Oh, and welcome to the forums!!!

It's an app, I did not install it, it came with the Droid. It automatically locates your position and then depending on what you choose (restaurants, hotels, gas stations, or user-made search queries) where the closest ones are, and even which direction according to your position.

But I figured it out after playing around with with more after making the post: hold down on the item you want to delete, it will buzz and then offer you an option to delete that particular search query.

I'll try the antivirus route for the belongs to part, it's in the other room at the moment.

Put your finger on what you want removed and hold it there. It should give you an option to remove it.
