Hello,

I am new to Droid Forums. It was suggested by one of my friends. I have a Samsung Fascinate, that I have had for about 5 months. I have loved it, until Verizon and Samsung pushed out the latest update.

After the latest update installed, I started getting “DRM Notification License Required,” which would then either lock my phone up or cause my phone to reboot. When my phone locks the only way to clear it, was to remove the battery, reinstall, and turn back on.

I called Verizon Customer Service, who first had me reset my phone to factory defaults, which did not solve the problem. The next call to VZW customer service, they had me format my SD Card, still did not solve my problem. Then the next call they put me online with Samsung Tech Support who said to either go to a VZW store and have them flash the OS, or to send the phone into Samsung for them to test and repair. I took my phone into the store, they flashed it, but now I get both the DRM Notification, and sometimes without the notification the phone reboots or locks up.

VZW said that I don’t have warranty with them, because I got the phone from a friend. Samsung warranty is still good, but they want to repair the phone and not replace it. I cannot be without my phone for 2 or more weeks. My friend suggests finding a Custom OS. I am considering trying the Custom OS, if available, or switching to another phone. I loved my Fascinate before the issues, but now, I am not sure what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi dkupper76,

Welcome to Droid Forums and to the awesome world of Choice! I'd probably suggest that you root your phone in order to then put a custom ROM on it. Don't worry, it's not as hard as it used to be. There's a great desktop app called Super One Click that can root your phone for you.

Once you have it rooted you can then install a custom ROM. There's a great app called ROM Manager (you can download it from the Android Marketplace) or you can simply install the ROM manually. I'd suggest the ROM Manager, it'll make things easy.

So; hopefully that'll work for you -- how long does your phone las before it starts crappin' out on you? I'm wondering if you'll have enough time to even install or run these apps.

Hi FergatROn or Marc,

I am not sure which one is you or if both are, I am guessing Marc is your name, but just in case, I wanted to have both to make sure I had it write. Thank you for your reply! I will give that a try and root my phone and get a Custom ROM. To answer your question, my phone intermittently craps out, it can go 2 or 3 days working fine sometimes, and other times it craps out within a couple of hours.

Thanks,

Daryl

Ok; great! Then you'll have enough time to root and install. Have fun, there are tons of custom ROMS. I'm pretty new to it, myself, but it's been a good experience thus far. I'm running CyanogenMod. You can certainly find all the ROMs you're looking for in the following forum, Custom Roms - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum. Good luck!

Oh; I forgot to add that my real name is Marc and my handle is "FergatROn".

Hey,

Rooting with Super One Click appeared to work. However, everything I try in ROM Manager leaves me with the Error Messages:

"E: Failed to verify whle-file signature"
"E: signature verification failed"
"Installation Aborted"

I tried using ROM Manager to back up current ROM and recieved those errors, I then just decided to Download a ROM, "DJ05" and it failed, got those errors.

The Options I have are:

Reboot System Now
Apply SD:Card Update.zip
Wipe data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Daryl

Look in the fascinate forum. There are guides for what you want to do.you cannot flash recovery just from rom manager yet. There are more steps involved.
Welcome to the forums.
