Now that Apple has finally released a phone that is capable of wireless charging in the iPhone 8 you can bet we will see a rise in the popularity of Qi charging. This is currently the most popular standard for wireless charging and many companies from hotel chains to car manufacturers have already promised Qi Charger integration into their places and products. This is good news for those of us who have been using Qi Charging for years now.
Samsung is looking to capitalize on what they hope will be a boom in the use of wireless charging with their next gen wireless charging pad. A new patent that they have filed for the device shows that it is capable of utilizing both magnetic induction and resonance charging methods both of which are supported by Qi. The new charger uses two inductive coils and a single resonance coil. It would be able to charge more than one device at a time. My bet is that we will see this new charger at the beginning of the year along side the Galaxy S9 announcement.
