Though not enabled by Google, if you get tired of active....ambient display and you want a little old school check out this article on how to enable it (Nexus 6 has a Hidden RGB LED Under the Top Speaker Grill Droid Life You will need to be rooted, as of now, to get this to work.

W...t...f...? So they seriously put these in every phone even though it's disabled and requires root to enable? Guessing that was a late enough edition to the software that they decided to just go with it?
