NFC and Tec Tiles on the Galaxy S4

If I understand correctly, Tec Tiles work off the NFC in the battery. If so, will changing the battery affect how the Ted Tiles function?

As long as you use an NFC equipped OEM Samsung battery you'll be fine. I'm not sure how well the aftermarket batteries work.

It will work fine as long as you have some juice.

Drake is correct in stating that if you buy or change batteries you must make sure they are NFC batteries.
