Tried several times to load Nandroid and it fails everytime, re-downloaded it and the same thing, is there another backup option? I rooted without doing a backup, fortunately everything went well but want to backup before I try out a few different Roms.

What do you mean by load nandroid? And what are you talking about downloading? You make a nandroid backup from recovery there shouldn't be any downloading involved. You restore a nandroid backup from recovery too.

Don't you need to install the program nandroid? I got it from here "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459830"
Loaded it onto my sd card then when booted into recovery and tried to install it and it fails.

oh wow haha thats real old school. no you don't need to install it. when you installed CWM recovery it came with the capability to do nandroid backups. you just need to boot into recovery and make a backup then later you can boot into recovery again and restore the backup.
