No notifications for App Updates (Market)

I realized this evening that I havent gotten seen the icon for a single application update on my screen in AGES when I used to see them every few days. So I went to the market and tapped download...and sure enought I had 10 updates available.
I updated everything....and then I spent a bunch of time looking in settings etc to see if I had turned something off that might have stopped the notifications from appearing....but I dont see anything....
Anyone know if there is such a setting (and where is it hiding)....or perhaps something about the market has changed & I just dont know it??

I think I might be jealous. I tried finding a setting for turning off the automatic notifications for available app upgrades, but I couldn't find anything. There are about five apps I use which I refuse to upgrade, since their latest upgrades are more the "downgrade" variety (restricted usage, ads, bugs, etc.), but I can't get the market to stop bugging me every couple of days to upgrade them.

Mine is (And always has been) set to "notify me when items are updated".
(Market - Menu - downloads - menu - notification)
After I posted this initial question, I also cleared the cache in Settings - applications - manage apps - market....
Not sure if that will do anything...Haven't gotten any notifications - but when I checked manually, I didnt see any available...and now we wait....

I dont have 2.2 yet (LG ALLY) -- but recently got a 2.1 upgrade -- hmmmm....I wonder if thats when this problem actually started....
