No text-to-speech without reboot

It seems over the past few weeks I have no text-to-speech with turn-by-turn navigation. Rebooting solves the problem temporarily, but after a day or two it stops. I've made sure the volume is up, and even tried Ivona to make sure it wasn't an issue with the stock TTS. Any ideas? It's driving me nuts. I'm running stock ICS 4.0.4.

go to manage apps > all and scroll down to google text-to-speech engine and tap on "clear data". Also look to see of it is enabled or disabled. May also want to try a force stop and then re-enable it.

That process drove me absolutely crazy. It was apparently enabled by some app I instaled and I would get voice notifications for all my text messages. Disableing it broke my copilot live app. Finally, a factory reset fixed my problem after exploring all other alternatives.
