no voicemail notification on droid?

Since I got my droid a month ago I have never received a voicemail notification icon in the scroll bar. I get voicemails but never get told so they accumulate because I never even know I have them. I get email, text, app, etc. notifications but never get one for voicemail. Trying to fix this on settings but can't find anything. Is there one? I can't imagine they would forget to put this simple notification in this so-called "smart phone".....

I have had plenty of voicemail notifications. it's even the classic notification too.

can be a silly question, but did you ever restart your phone?

and yes i've gone pretty long without restarting the phone myself.
