Notification issues with email

Hello,

I just got my Droid 4 and have questions. I switched from a Droid 1 to this one about 5 days ago and have most everything setup.

When I receive a call I get the ringtone I chose but first I hear "Verizon Wireless" and I want to turn that off. I'm not sure what option or setting that is..?

Then, when I get email, I don't get sound at all. I have a special ringtone for email and have my volume turned up but once in a while it might let me know I have new email but for the most part, it doesn't.

Thanks for any help.

Droid 4 Questions

Hi craftygirl!

I can assist you with both of your questions about the Droid 4. I know that if I set a ringtone for my phone, I'd want to hear it. The "Verizon Wireless" that you hear is a setting in your phone called a "Roaming Tone." When you hear this tone, it will tell you the network you are picking up, and if you are roaming or not. The fact that it says "Verizon Wireless" tells you that you are using our network for that call. You can remove it by following these steps:

Menu
Settings
Call Settings
Roaming Tone-make sure this is un-checked.

Moving on, you also mentioned that you are not being notified of emails when you receive them, but sometimes you do. You could try a different ringtone to see if that is the issue, or you could check the setting for when your email is set to notify you. You would simply pull up your email account from the device, press Menu, then Settings. In fact, this is also the way to change the email notification tone. You would also want to check the setting about the email push schedule. If it is set to manual, you may want to change it to automatic.

Another option would be to remove the email account from the device, and then re-add it. You will have to set up the settings again, but this may resolve the issue for you. Below are the steps:

Menu
Settings
Accounts
Press the email account
Press "Remove Account"
Press OK

To re-add the email account, the steps are very similar:

Menu
Settings
Accounts
Add Account
Then, follow the prompts to re-add the email account.

I trust this information is helpful for you. Have a good day!

If you're using Gmail, there's an option to only notify once on new email. i.e. if you get an email, it'll notify, but if you don't check it and you receive another, it won't make noise or vibrate. You can change it to notify for each email if you'd like.

Open Gmail
Menu > More > Settings
Click your account.
Scroll down to the bottom and click "Labels to notify"
You can then set up individual notifications for each label, but for this we will choose Inbox
Uncheck the Notify Once button.
(this is also where you set custom tones for the Gmail app)
Hit OK and back back back.

Thank you both for the helpful replies. I did get the Roaming tone fixed. Unfortunately the email isn't a Gmail account. I will be paying more attention to the email thing for a while to see if it's selective or random..
