Odd Gmail contacts synching issue

I noticed today that my Droid has combined two of my contacts into one. They happen to be husband and wife and have the same last name. I thought I had accidentally merged them in gmail but when I looked at them in Gmail on my computer they were separate. The both are both categorized as "My Contacts" and that group is checked to synch on my phone.

Strange huh? Any suggestions?

it did that with a lot of my contacts..not a fan of it..
