To date, yes, Droid number four.
Verizon has been great, no complaints.
Number one phone functioned fine, except the battery door kept falling off.......I asked Verizon to send me a replacement door, they sent me a new phone.

Phone two I was having difficulty using Google street view, called for help.....the person I spoke with couldn't assist me.....sent out a new phone. I did figure it out within a few minutes more and tried to stop it. ....too late.

Phone three.....previous phone was really lagging, and getting stuck despite battery pulls.....was advised by Verizon to get a new phone as my 30 days were almost up.

Phone four....after spending much time with tech support, this phone is dropping calls, losing calls, wont dial out sometimes, and getting stuck. The signal meter changes from 4 to 1 often.....usually no 3g signal....from the same exact location.....same chair!

Verizon is waiting for response from the trouble ticket. I have a suspicion that something happened to the towers nearby due to snow.......but even in NYC. ....same thing.

At this point, I like the phone......but can't count on it.

Kudos to Verizon, who so far have been fine.

Also thanks to all here......very helpful

I went through 3 myself and still ended up with a more "laggy" version than my 2nd one, but I'm hoping the update helps correct enough things that it speeds a lot of my lagginess' up.

THats weird heres why I haven't had most of ur problems
1.I brought a case so never touched the battery door for it to fall off
2.Did you download the update for Google Maps? It comes with liek 3.1 or 3.2 but when u update ur at like 3.3. I know with update You get Google Navigate and a couple other things and the marketplace rarely tells me i need the update when I first got the phone so I found out myself.
3. Dunno about lagging most of the time its a bad app I usually install the last 2 apps i just installed and it works fine.
4. Dropped calls could just be your area I know sometimes at home I get zero signal sometimes I get a signal all depends on where your at.

Hope you get everything sorted out though

on phone one shame on VZW. Motorola has free replacements available.

Phone 2 seems like user error and bad tech support

Phone 3 actually sounds like internal memory failure. Seems like a valid replacement

Phone 4..are you using Google Voice or any other apps like handcent or chompsms maybe lots of "I M" or Pandora or something like that. I find my device lages when streaming Pandora or lots of Gtalk is in use. Usually I just shut down the music streaming and clear the memory with ATK then it goes back to normal.

Overall this is still the best device I have ever used. Props to Moto and VZW for making it work correctly and getting great support. Unlike the Nexus we are in good shaoe for the future. Now bring on the 2.0.2 update :)

user error and bad tech support

not to put words in your keyboard, but i think this sums up a good portion of people going through multiple phones. and that goes for phones from different manufacturers as well. i've seen people return blackberrys, palms, iphones, etc for issues that could have been resolved with more knowledge of the phone.

sometimes tech support can tell during discussion with a user if they'll be a reliable participant in resolving an issue. if not they'll just as soon send out a new phone rather than waste a few hours trying to help someone who's not that technically inclined. no offense to the op.

First off welcome to the forums Jazzcat....

It's too bad you didn't find these forums when you first got the device.

The first two devices were good. You just needed to be steered in the right direction and gotten good advice..

Your problems could have been over on phone 1.

phone 1 you could have kept. Easy fix by contacting Moto

phone 2 you could have kept and sent back the replacement.

As far as your current device. I'm thinking a factory reset is in order followed by #228 option 2. Obviously that won't help if there is a problem with the towers in your area but you say you are experiencing it elsewhere as well. I'd give it a shot. Certainly can't hurt and will give you a fresh start.

Good luck and keep us up to date on how this all shakes out.

such a so so so true statement. (some people do need a manual. wish the droid came with one) I printed one out from the web but it is very generic. I've looked at it a total of 10 minutes and then threw it away. (rather learn on the fly:)

Yes, I agree with user error and bad tech.
This device has a huge learning curve for me.

Right now, I have 2 bars.....nothing else.
I am in my home office, where most of my calls originate.

Now no signal, now 4 bars.
..

This is while I am writing this!
I don't care about the signal meter as long as the phone operates.

No apps running, no handcent..nothing else.

I am in Philadelphia. ....not far from several towers.
In NYC the same thing.

It has to compromise my battery life..

Thanks again.

Did the factory reset followed by *228.
No difference. It was done a couple of days ago.

Yes, I agree, I wish I had used this forum more from the beginning.very helpful.

i wouldn't worry too much about the bars as long as your phone calls aren't getting dropped and data isn't interrupted. as long as that 3G symbol stays up you should be good to go. there could be several things going on with the towers in your area or other equipment in your general vicinity that might cause temporary blips in signal strength.

i just spend about 1 minute periodically looking at my signal bars and it jumped around occasionally, but the 3G symbol stayed up. also, when i made a phone call or browsed the web all the bars were more consistently up there. it's possible that the phone is throttling signal strength when not in use to save battery, but when you're using it the signal strength is increased to make sure you get optimal bandwidth.

again, you could drive yourself crazy obsessing over the signal strength. just ignore it unless you're having issues with dropped calls or getting on the internet.

Id suggest going to a different phone. I see this from time to time and just shake my head. The battery door issue is one thing. Seems like the other 3 instances are just you looking for a problem where there isnt one.

Actually that isn't true. The OP tried to get help but unfortunately the tech support was not very good at all.

I blame it on the bad support he/she received. As I said before it's too bad the OP didn't find these forums first it would have been a whole other ending.
