I just graduated from a LG Chocolate to a Droid. On my chocolate and other Verizon phones there was an option to set up speed dial number for my contacts. I cannot find that on the Droid. Is it not available?

Long press on blank homescreen. Choose shortcut. Choose direct dial. Find contact.

One touch dial.

This is how I do it. You may or may not like, but give it a shot.

Long press home screen> folders>new folder>then long press the folder and drag it to where you want to place it> open folder>long press on the title bar> rename folder(I named mine "Direct Dial")

Long press home screen>shortcut>direct dial> choose contact> drag contact icon to the DD folder.

I would suggest putting all of your direct dial icons on your homescreen first and then dragging them into your folder in the order you want them to appear. The folder will not auto organize them ie alphabetically.

Repeat process for Direct Message

This place is awsome...

Everyday I find another tip or technique that fits the bill. Thanks to everyone for the questions AND answers.

Shortcut to Call Log?

I've had direct dial shortcuts for a while, but is there a way to add a shortcut to the Call Log? I know it is just two clicks, but I'm lazy. :)

Related question: can you edit the name of the shortcut once you create it? Specifically, the name of the shortcut is linked to a particular person, and in several cases I don't want that, I want to show the name of the company, b/c many people work there and it lists the first person in my phonebook (by alpha) who has that # in their contact info. Yes, I can remember that that person goes w/ that company, but I want to edit the name to read the way I want it. Possible? Thanks.

I have all my direct dials in a folder and for the last month or so, after a few days, the folder won't open. I have to do a soft boot to get it to work. It drives me NUTS!

I used to have an LG Venus and I prefer the speed dial method that that phone had - the # shortcut that you can put into the dialer.

However, the speed dial I just started using for this phone is adding the Starred Contact folder to the homescreen and using that for the people I talk to most.
