Even though this new Panasonic UN-W700 device uses Android and has several tablet-like features, they don't really call it a tablet. The device is supposedly a multimedia entertainment device, designed for singing and dancing. Here's a breakdown of specs for this "tablet-like" device:
  • 7-Inch inches, with a pixel display resolution of 800 x 480, and an aspect ratio of 15:9
  • Will play content on the standee from an SDXC card or through DLNA (also supports playback of recordings from Panasonic Diga, including those targeted at BluRay).
  • Support various codecs, including H.264, MPEG-4, WMV, AAC, MP3, WMA, MP4, and 3GP and AAC+.
  • Front-facing camera, for Skype video-conferencing
  • Access to Google Play Apps
  • Built in speakers
  • Headphone jack
  • USB port
  • Card slot for SD, SDHC, and SDXC
  • Web browser with Wireless LAN
  • Charges in just 2.5 hours - usage range (depending on activity) = an hour to ten hours
The Panasonic UN-W700 is scheduled to be released July 25th. Hmmm... it sure seems like a tablet. It does have some buttons along the side that are designed to facilitate the multimedia and audio capabilities of the device. Still... if it walks like a duck, you will probably hear it quacking.
