Pdanet phone to tablet

I have a co-worker who has the LG Optimis. He wants me to root it but sprint had an update in February that made Z4 unable to root. There are mixed reports of both suoeroneclick and gingerbreak working, and the only confirmed method is to use the ADB to root. I have never used it to root so I don't want to try it now.

Will pdanet successfully tether a phone and android tablet or will it only work on a PC running windows or Mac?

I'm just looking for the easiest possible solution since I'm not familiar with his phone.
