phone plus groups question

Call me crazy, but I really like the stock phone/dialer/contacts app. However, I have set up groups in my contacts on Gmail/Google. These groups don't appear anywhere in the contacts. I would love a decent, not too complex, way to have these groups either in a good non-complicated contact/phone replacement or as folders on my homepage (and I really don't feel like adding all of the contacts I want in a particular group manually on my home screen unless I have to). Any thoughts on a solution/alternative? If it matters, I'm on an OG Droid with Chevy SS5.4
