photo sharing

recently i took some photos and wanted to share them via email w/a friend overseas.
unfortunately when i selected several pics to send and brought up the menu of how to share and chose email, it downloaded one of the pics, but not all of them...

does this process take a while or are my photos in some kind of cellphone space?
