Please Help...wifi tether question...

I have 2.2 and downloaded Barnacle from the market. I have "skip wpa supplicant" checked like my search results have said. For some reason my computer still wont connect.

-Do I need to download something to my computer to get it to connect?

-Also, when my computer lists my wireless networks Barnacle shows up but as an "unsecured computer to computer network" and not a "wireless network" like the others listed. Is this normal?

Thanks for your help! dancedroid

I use Wireless Tether which does not require me to load anything on my Mac Book Pro. I would think that Barnacle would not require an additions.

I do not need to bypass any of the settings so I'm unable to make any suggestions. Have you tried Wireless Tether?

I got wireless tether to work on my phone! Thanks! It's pretty slow...is there anyway to speed it up? Its way slower than doing a USB tether.

That is interesting. It uses the phones 3G so mine is very fast. Here are the instructions I used to install:

Make sure under settings > applications you have "use unsigned applications" or whatever it says. Top box. It will give you a warning but just ignore it.

My settings for WiFi tether are...uncheck use Bluetooth, check Enable WiFi Encryption, set up a passphrase (make sure it is 13 characters), change the SSID or leave it default (I left it default), Change channel to 07, power mode active, enable access control unchecked (my preference), change LAN first option, everything else left it the way it was.

Hope this is helpful. Let me know if it makes any difference.

I changed my settings to match yours and it stopped working altogether and I ended up having to uninstal then install it again...now I'm back to square one.

Let me review what I have
Bluetooth
Use BT not checked
Don't disable WiFi is grayed out

Wifi
Enable wifi encryption is checked (turn on wifi-encryption(WEP-128-bit)

Change Passphrase has been changed
Change SSID Network name Androidteher

Security

These work for me. I have a Mac Book Pro and I use the tether feather regularly

Is wireless tether an app? I looked and did not see it. I have tried Barnacle and Open Garden. Neither works. Barnacle gives me a DHCP: Failed to parse.... as well as NAT: Could net set MTU...

I can connect but do not get internet access.
