POP Mail - "Connection Error"

POP Mail - "Connection Error" when From contains special chars like "詹姆士"

I'm hoping that someone has an idea that I'm overlooking.

Yesterday - I had POP3 access setup to my ISP.
Emails were displaying on my phone.

Today I was at work, and added my work Exchange account.
(Works great on the $30 data plan, calendar syncs and everything)

I went back to look at my personal mail - and I keep getting a yellow popup that reads:
"Connection Error"

At one point, I thought maybe it worked when on my home WiFi - but not elsewhere... but I'm home now and proven that theory wrong.

I've deleted the account, attempted to recreate it - and have validated my settings against my laptop a dozen times, always with the same results....

Anyone have any ideas?
I'm tempted to play with a pop account at a different ISP to see if I have luck there...

Apparently I'm not alone - google turned up threads of others having similar issues... magically appearing & resolving themselves.

I tried K-9, and while that failed - I get a wonderful stack trace in an error log...

Based on the package name - I presume that this is an underlying issue in android's POP3 framework....

Anyone have ideas on a useful place to let the developers know?
It seems to me that having a stack trace and guilty message goes a long way to resolving things.

My email is "fixed" for the moment...
I had one email come in last night from: "詹姆士 "

Deleting that email got things flowing again...

Short term victory!:icon_ banana:

But it would be good to see POP3 email stable....

Still new to android, so if a mod can point me toward a place to place a proper bug report, it would be appreciated.

Amusingly - I got another email from this person, and the email came back...

Removed it from the pop server, and back in business.

I just started using my driod about a month ago. 2 POP accounts and an excahnge account. All working great until yesterday. Now 1 POP account getting connection error and does work sometimes.

Has anyone heard of a solution?

I have the stock 2.1 set up.

I think I'm going to try pushing the yahoo mail to gmail. Any other suggestions?

Its a issue with Time Warner/Road Runner email. When you are inside the network ie. WiFi at home thru RR you can send fine. When you leave home and send thru 3g you are outside the RR network and therefor cant send. I have talked to both Verizon and RR support about the issue. It makes me mad b/c this work fine for a few days when I got the phone and now it doesn't. I have uninstalled/reinstalled account and that seemed to work but now it doesn't. Checked all the smtp settings and still nothing. If its this unstable I am going to have to use GMail which sucks b/c have to notify everyone of the change. Wish it worked! Anymore info please let me know!
Thanks,
