So I was thinking. The Droid is capable of transmitting a signal, this is proven since we can wirelessly tether. I think tethering uses an FM signal. I also think the remotes for my ceiling fan are FM. I could be wrong on both accounts. I was wondering if it would be possible to make an app that would control a ceiling fan. It wild be nice to adjust the fan or turn the lights on from my dock at night. I was thinking some type of learning remote that could be programmed with an existing remote. Would this be possible? My ceiling fan remote says it's operating at 350mhz.

Lol there on two different systems. Wifi and remote transmitters cannot react to each other.

Some Android phones have FM receivers in them. Like your car radio they can only receive radio stations.

The two methods of wireless tethering are wifi and bluetooth. Neither of these transmits in the FM band or with anything remotely like an FM signal.

That said, it is possible to control your ceiling fan with your phone. You'll need some additional equipment, and will probably have to throw a computer into the mix. Go ahead and Google ' "home control" Android ' (minus the single quotes). Another term you can search is X10, which is a home control standard.

Have fun.

I did not know that. Thanks

No problem. I keep an eye out for this kind of stuff. It's cool. Unfortunately it is just one of a dozen or so hobbies I can't afford right now. :)
