Possible use for an old Droid X?

I may not be posting this in the correct area, so I apologize if that's the case.

I recently upgraded to a razr and am really happy with it. Instead of getting rid of my X, I was wondering what possible suggestions you may have for it. The battery life is still good and it has a 16GB card. I erased everything and it's been reset to factory settings.

My thoughts were to keep it as a mass storage device, something to watch movies on, and to use the camera. I don't need it to make calls or for data. What do you think? And how would I go about starting this, i.e. if I need to put a new rom on it, etc.

Welcome to DroidForums plaingreytee! Yes, you can actually use your old phone to do quite a bit. Just turn it on and bypass the activation and you can pretty much do just about everything you did before when you're on Wi-Fi. And lots even off Wi-Fi. Just not make calls except for calls over Wi-Fi (google voice, Skype, textPlus Free Text + Calls, etc). You could even get your text messages from your new phone to the old one via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi using tablet talk.

Thanks! I just skipped the activation and now I'm charging it. I'll mess with the settings later. Should I leave it as is and use it as is? I'm gathering that it'll probably work better since it doesn't need to sync or use data?

You can leave it as is if you want or you could do a factory data reset to start it out as a brand new phone (that will work like a mini tablet). If you use it as is, all your apps, texts, etc will still be on the phone. If you do an fdr, then you can sign in with your gmail address and add any apps you want from play store and even the apps you purchased will still be available.

Another option, maybe not so much for you, is to donate your old usable phone. Just another option, just saying. Lots of worthy causes out there.

Yeah, it works great. I love it. When I'm on my tablet I don't even have to pay attention to my phone... get my texts with tablet talk, calls with Google voice, emails and everything else is all on my tablet.
