Love this time of year....its when the farmers market is in full swing and people set up little tents in empty lots all over the city to sell their produce, pies, home made jams etc straight from their gardens. I was running errands after work yesterday, and after stopping by my favorite taco truck for a few authentic carne asada steak tacos, I walked next door to a tent set up next to the taco truck to grab some fresh veggies for the wknd. I love supporting local farmers whenever I can. Not only is the produce fresher and better tasting, it's often a much better deal price wise. I was able to pick up a couple of tomatoes, broccoli & ears of corn for only $4.50.
Then they had some amazing looking homemade pies as well. blueberry, cherry, blackberry & apple.... drooool....
( I had to pick up an apple.
I love finding fresh homemade apple pies, not only to eat, but to compare. I like to see how they compare to my own recipe and whether or not I can learn anything from theirs, that I can incorporate into my own. I had such high hopes for this one...
But can safely say (with SO's opinion included) mine still reigns supreme, at least taste-wise. That said, the crust on this pie was without a doubt, THE best pie crust I have ever eaten, anywhere, EVER. Both of us could not stop raving about the crust on this badboy....it was truly heavenly. I tracked down the owners (Volcanic Farms) and emailed them in the hopes that they'll share their pie crust recipe with me. While my crust is "ok" this is the only area where I have trouble. Some say the crust makes the pie, but I find both the filing and the crust equally important. I'll let you know if they share it with me. Some folks hold onto these family secret recipes and only share them with immediate family...and for good reason, this crust was truly on an "award winning" level.
Let's see those S5 photo's folks! [emoji2]
