Problem in safe strap

Earlier tonight I was trying to flash a new rom I downloaded. I have been running my stock rom the last few weeks. Anyway, I rebooted my phone to run safe strap. I tried to switch to the safe system. I got half way through then getting error /data! Needless to say safe system did not load and when i rebooted my phone was reset. I ended up doing factory reset because when the phone reset the first time my apps that were backed up would not re-download. So now I have everything back that way it was prior to load safe system. Oh and I had to reinstall safe strap that was the only app that did not recover. I installed it. Un-installed the actual recovery portion, then re installed. My question is should I try to load safe system again? I want to flash the new rom but dont want to go through all this again.

Ok nevermind i answered my own question. I was reading some roms cause problems when trying to switch between systems. Thank you Timmy10shoes. Your previous thread cleared that up.
