Problems with Tethering!!!

Hey all. I've been a lurker for quite a while on the forums. Great place. But, the time has come where I need some help. Hopefully y'all will be able to. I have used PDAnet with my OG droid (rooted with Sapphire rom) for a very long time. It's my most reliable internet at college, but now, it seems no matter what I use to tether with, the connection will continually slow and then 5-10 minutes into my session, I will have no connection at all.

I have already uninstalled/reinstalled PDAnet, experimented with the PDA net bluetooth DUN, tried wifi tether for root users. And they all seem to have the same result. I am reading an average of 3-4 bars of 3g, but something seems to be going wrong. As soon as I disconnect whatever I am using to tether, then reconnect, I'll get blazing speeds again for a few minutes, then it'll muck up. Someone please help....

Drew, if you are a heavy user, it is possible Verizon is throttling your service based on several posts I have seen in various forums. Search thru the forums for "throttling" for help. Some of the ROMs have the antidote built in and there are some kernels? that can be added to other ROMs that proportedly help out. I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of these tools, but might be worth a shot.

There has been no solid evidence that VZW has throttled anyone, it's all speculation. If you could lead me in the right direction to see solid evidence, I would be very grateful.

Some people have tethered over 80GB's and never been throttled, nor has VZW said a word.

Yes, I have done some reading of forum posts here about throttling. I don't necessarily believe that the throttling rumors or 5gb limit rumoes are true.

However, I stumbled upon a post from a guy with a similar problem as mine. His ended up being due to VZW experiencing some 3g issues in his area. So I will continue to monitor the situation, and let you all know if it has improved. Thanks for the posts so far!

Ok, quick update here. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the phone-side pdanet app. Still on the first few minutes of running the connection here. So far, so good. But, I noticed something odd. When I used to connect to PDAnet, the connection would show up on my pc as "pdanet modem." I've noticed for the last few days it's shown up as "network 2." Could this have any bearing on my problems as well? What does this mean?

**EDIT AND UPDATE 2**

Ok, so I got a chance to head to an internet cafe. I discovered that some of my problems accessing sites were still there. This led me on a google chase on the error. I finally realized that I had "bitblocker" turned on on my computer. While this works great with my torrent, I have forgotten that it sometimes interferes with regular internet use. So, I am writing here from WingStop, having turned bitblocker off, hoping that not only fixes my other problems, but also fixes the issues I had with tethering. If so, then I am a huge idiot....

Drew, as to the 2 diff netwrk connection names--- there are 2 ways to configure pda net. You can install a usb modem and or a broadband adapter. I am rusty on this as I no longer have it on my Droid, but still have it on my windows pc with both of the aforementioned usb modem adapter and the network/broadband adapter. I was thinking the usb is just for direct usb tethering and the other adapter was for Bluetooth. It may also allow wireless on rooted android, but not sure. If you click on "online help" option in desktop pda icon you can fine lots more info from JuneFabrics.

OK. So, the problems still persist....as of Monday. I am now ruling out a 3g signal problem due to the fact that this has been going on for a week now. Also, the problem on Sunday, where I got the error: "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error" gave me an interesting clue.

I would get that error from Chrome whenever accessing a couple different sites at the internet cafe. The problem was due to my BitBlocker being turned on and blocking them. Hence, the lack of connection. HOWEVER, just today, I noticed that that was the same error I get when my tethering connection goes bye bye. I was on Gizmodo reading a few articles that I opened up pretty easy in tabs. When I finished with them, I went to go to page 2. I got that same error after it tried to load the page:
Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error.

So....the last time this happened, Bitbloker was blocking me. I do not have it enabled now, and the tethering connection works for about 10-15 minutes, till I get that error message again. Could this actually be a case of throttling? What the heck is going on with this? I again ask for opinions...help, ANYTHING folks. I am getting frustrated.....

You are rooted so there is a better alternative than PDANet as long as you haven't invested in it. Lookup Wireless Tether for Root Users in the market and try that out. Just an option. Not set in stone :)

Ahem.....already tried it....

Really don't know what to do here folks. I am at a loss, honestly. Anyone with similar problems out there care to chime in?

I was having an issue with PDAnet where it would drop the connection after 4 minutes. I reinstalled on the PC and my Droid to clear up the issues. It's working well now.

Gah! I wish that would have worked for me. But alas, it didn't.... :(( No idea why not either. Still having the issues after a couple weeks. Hmpf...
