Protective case causing data connection difficulty

I can't find the recent post that caused me to check this out. I tried what was suggested; I took my protective cover off the phone when I'm downloading. Much quicker with no pausing. Makes sense, since the antenna is in the battery cover!

Plastic, nothing special. $20 from Verizon store. Shiny, smooth.
