Yes, it's true! Quake 2 & 3 has been ported to the Android platform. From androidandme.com:

I decided to release the source code here : quake2android - Project Hosting on Google Code

changelist 1.8 :
- corrected crash in video menu
- extract players directory from demo file
- fixed download bug
- tested multiplayer game : working OK !

Install the APK into your Android phone

click here : quake2-android-1.8.apk

IMPORTANT NOTE : if you have problem upgrading, uninstall previous version before installing new version.

Install the Data File

To use the Quake2 APK you need either the data files from the original game or from the demo version that is available for download from idsoftware.com .

Launch Quake2 application > press Menu > then Tools > then Download data file

You can select Id Software FTP or some other mirror as download source

emulator : very slow, < 5 fps
HTC G1 with CyanogenMod (Android 1.5 custom ROM) : OK
HTC G2 : OK
Samsung Galaxy : OK, 10-15 fps
Motorola Droid / Milestone (Android 2.0.1) : OK, 35-40 fps
T-Mobile Pulse ( Android 1.5, Huawei HU8220 ) : OK
HTC Tatoo : OK, 5 fps (too slow ...)
Google Nexus One : NOK - Hi Google, if you want to donate me a Nexus One, please contact me ;-)

Other phone : report me if it works !

Q2 is pretty hard to control IMO. Q3 is nearly impossible. I can't even beat Crash. They both seem to run well though.

Why isn't this thread in Driod Games?

Thanks to dtrb for the info on installing kwaak3, I had no issues loading that bad boy up.

LOL, and I thought I sucked at first-person shooters before...

But seriously, the rendering of the game is super nice and looks amazing. So glad we have developers out there helping us make the best use of our phones.
