Questio about installing rom

So I am currently on Rubix Blurry 1.5.2 and in my information about the phone it says my system version is 2.3.20. My understanding is that I am not on the newest leak and that my bootloader has not been updated. I wanted to switch to a rom based on 2.3.15. My question is: am I able to do this with a simple wipe of data and cache? Do I need to do an sbf first? Thanks for the help.
