Question about gapps file

I'm sure this is an easy thing to do but I don't want to screw up my phone so I will ask first and in all my searching I can't find the answer. I know how to install the sapphire roms but how do I install the gapps file? Do I just put the file onto my phones SD card or do I need to rename it? Thanks for your help.

Well, are you using clockwork or SPRecovery?

If clockwork, you do not need to rename anything. Just flash it after flashing the main rom.

If you are using SPRecovery, then after applying the rom, mount usb mass storage while plugged into your computer, rename the gapps file to update.zip, and then flash it.

Do not wipe between installing the rom and the gapps file. It is not needed.
