Question about my Motorola Devour

Ok so I just bought this about 30 minutes ago off craiglist and I'm thinking it was a mistake. It has not been activated and I have no clue how to do it. I don't have verizon so it's not like I can type in a phone number and it's happy. I type in mine and it tells me to dial some * number which I can't do. Is there any way around this? If I go into my phone provider could they fix it? My phone runs off of verizon towers but it's a month to month thing that they have contracted with verizon. I'm so lost! Any help would be amazing!

Well let's start off with what phone provider you have...why did you buy a Verizon phone if you don't have Verizon service = \

I have Page plus cellular. It runs off of verizon towers. I have a unlocked sprint phone that I'm currently using but I can't send/receive pic messages or get online because it is not a verizon phone. They told me that in order to get all that sense they run off verizon towers is to get a verizon phone so I did.
