Question about Skype and other messaging programs.

I have Skype on my droid now, but it's so ridiculous that there is no option for sending an sms to a cell phone. On my iphone I could use Skype just as I could on my computer, why is it not the same? If you can, I need someone to tell me how.

Also, is there a program that will work with someone who is using a blackberry, for instance, to send and receive messages free?

My girlfriend lives in Germany and I in the US so txting gets quit expensive. We both had the iPhone and were using WhatsApp but now that I've switched to DROID there isn't WhatsApp and she will get a BB soon.

Ideas?

Goolge Talk works well on BB and Droid. You Can also make voice phonecalls to Skype using Fring.
