question about slides on the main screen

When I set up my main screen with the picture I want, I am really annoyed with the slides.
I have many slides when I unlock my phone. The problem is my picture that I set up is splitted into five sections. Is there a way to get rid of all the slides?

If by slides you mean all the seven home screens then you can get a home screen replacement app like adw or launcher pro and use it to have only one homescreen.

Or if you use Launcher Pro you can just disable the wallpaper scrolling.

With Launcher Pro loaded and running press the menu key.
Choose Preferences.
Scroll down to Disable wallpaper scrolling, and check the box.
