Question regarding a recovered lost Droid X

I have a friend that lost his Droid X 2 months ago. He has recently found it and offered to sell it to me, however, It was reported lost/stolen. Will Verizon want the phone back since he replaced the lost phone through insurance?

The phone wont be able to be activated on Verizons network.

There is no way to unlock it on the verizon network if it was reported lost or stolen.
