Questions about rooting.

Ok I am a guy that likes to screw around with stuff. I quite frequently brick things and need to recover it. Here is my question. I am looking at rooting my incredible. Do I need to make a backup before or after rooting it? How do I make a backup? How do I recover if I screw up my phone? Thanks for my help.

I've rooted and unrooted several times and the unrooting is far worse than the rooting. All you're doing when rooting is getting access to another part of the software. It can get a little stickier when loading ROMs. As far as backup goes, nothing on your SD card will be changed, and if you use a google account all of your email, contacts, and calendar are safe anyway.

Once you root and load a custom recovery, you can use nandroid to completely backup your phone's current image/rom. This will get everything except the SD card, I think.

Just saw the Unrevoked root, planning on doing it, but I need to be able to make a complete backup of my current layout/image or w/e so if I want to go back to what I currently have I can. How do I do that? Thanks.
